Dr. V. Sankaranarayanan, Advisor cum member of CMS, graduated from Annamalai University in 1966 in Electrical Engineering and did his Post Graduation from College of Engineering, Guindy in 1968 and got his Ph.D. degree from I.I.T., Madras in 1979. 

He joined College of Engineering , Guindy in 1968 and held various positions. Prior to his retirement in 2002, was working as Professor and Director, Ramanujan Computing Centre, Anna University, Chennai.  He was also the Chairman, Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, Anna University. He was deputed to government and has held the post of Special Officer, Science & Technology, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science & Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu, for four years during 1990-1994. For a short time during 1996, he was in deputation at Dubai. After retirement, he was working as Dean, Information Technology and Director R&D in Crescent Engineering College for one year. He also held the position of Director, Tamil Virtual University in the rank of Vice Chancellor for a term of three years from 2003 to 2006. He was deputed for training in Remote Sensing at ISRO, Bangalore and SAP, France during 1986.

He again joined Crescent Engineering College after the term of Tamil Virtual University and worked for 10 years as Director and also as Vice-Chancellor (officiating) for 6 months. 

As Member Secretary, TNSCST, to honour the academicians, TANSA awards were introduced. To help the students in their Project works, Project funding was given and best projects were given awards.

He was an alternate Chairman for Testing and Accepting of the Software Packages for Regional Remote Sensing Service Centers of ISRO, Bangalore. 

He was in-charge of processing of Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations ever since it started in 1984. 

He as Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions and his team at team at RCC, Anna University developed the software, implemented and operated it for Tamil Nadu Engineering Counselling and Admissions in 1997 under the guidance of Dr. Anandakrishnan, which has been widely appreciated and is being continued for 21 years, with finer enhancements. He was also called again to help the implementation of online counselling in 2018. He was the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission from 1997 to 2000.  

He was also a member in the expert panel of the Govt. of Tamil Nadu for the selection of Computer Hardware & Software for Govt. Departments. 

He was a member in various academic bodies of many Universities and Institutions. 

 

He had traveled wide and had visited many countries like, France, Belgium, Netherlands, England, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives, Thailand, U.S.A. and U.A.R.

 

Eighteen candidates have obtained their Ph.D. degree in Engineering under his guidance and supervision. He has published more than 176 papers in Journals/Conferences, both national and international, with more than 1205 citations. His h-index is 13 and i10 index is 16.

 

He had obtained sponsored research projects from UGC, AICTE to the tune of Rs. 75 lakhs.  He was an expert member for Project evaluation committees for MHRD and DST. He was the sanctioning authority for projects in Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology and in Tamil Virtual University.
